After a few days John is good enough to start helping around on the ranch like any gunslinger who recently received a near fatal wound would. Before too long John is working with the US Marshalls and some other interesting characters. In the same vein as Grand Theft Auto, John ends up doing odd jobs for these varied characters to help form an alliance for another go at Fort Mercer. This second attempt goes better, except in victory it turns out Williamson is a cowardly bastard who fled to Mexico. This seems bad, but this also means that Mexico is unlocked and border crossing was much easier a little over a century ago.

Games are never delayed because the game is in a particularly good place. They are often the result of the product not meeting expectation,s so extra time is taken to smooth out the wrinkles. Hopefully, the delay is simply the perfectionists over at Rockstar trying to make the best game they possibly can, but there is a chance that the game simply isn’t coming together like they hoped it would. It’s been seven years since the original came out, which had many questioning whether or not a follow-up would ever come. Undead Nightmare not only bought along a whole new storyline for the player to beat, but changed the mechanics of the game to give an entirely different and addictively fun set of challenges to survive. Not taking themselves too seriously, Rockstar took the fairly solemn story of John Marston and his family and turned it on its head, making it a zombie themed nightmare. By changing the gameplay and how danger occurred, Rockstar gave their game incredible replay value. Due to its popularity, Rockstar would be remiss if they didn’t include a game changing DLC like this one. As your main companion that you’ll have for the entirety of the game, Red Dead Redemption 2 really brings home the point that your relationship to your horse is important. As your primary mode of transportation and storage (aside from being a loyal companion), your horse will also grow over time with Arthur as you bond with it and can develop its strengths further.

Gunslingers in the wild west have been the subject of many memorable video games such as Gun, Custer’s Revenge, Lethal Enforcers II and probably another one or two are in there somewhere. What is generally considered the most celebrated is 2010’s Red Dead Redemption, or Grand Theft Equine as it’s commonly referred. Like one or two other Rockstar titles, Red Dead Redemption was met with near universal acclaim and is still fondly remembered almost a decade later. The upcoming sequel is one of the most anticipated titles of 2018, and with that release just around the corner it seems like a good time to look back on the tale of John Marshton.

But unlike many others that I’ve talked to about this, I don’t find myself turned off by any of these aspects of Red Dead Redemption 2 . In fact, I think these elements are Red Dead Redemption 2 ‘ s biggest strength from what I’ve played so far. Rather than just feeling like I’m another bland avatar that is filling a void within this larger open-world, Red Dead Redemption 2 is forcing me to live the actual (fictional) life of Arthur Morgan.

By forcing you to slow down and complete duties that seem lackluster, you slowly start to feel more present in this world and grow closer to your own version of Arthur. If Red Dead Redemption 2 was just all about riding around the West and shooting up saloons with your revolver, you’d likely feel disconnected from your avatar. The game then just becomes a power trip and the character that you end up playing is just an amplified version of your own wants and desires. Doing simple chores though such as chopping wood, skinning animals and dragging them back to my horse, and donating to the gang’s larger pool of money has made me feel more of a bond with Arthur than any other character I’ve played as in recent memory. My bond with the character thus far has been established in these small moments, not the large ones.

2017 is shaping up to be a landmark year for video games. Not only do we have the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild , Horizon: Zero Dawn , and Persona 5 already released, but Wolfenstein: The New Colossus , Crackdown 3 , Far Cry 5 , and God of War are all set to release before spring 2018. Red Dead may be a beloved game, but it doesn’t have the name recognition of Rockstar’s other big Open World games patch notes-world crime game, or the popularity of some of the other games coming out. Even with this delay moving it away from the likes of Call of Duty WW2 and Battlefront 2 , the game still has to go up against some of the most highly anticipated titles of the past couple of ye
